The Amazon To The Andes adventure offers up an intriguing combination of mountains and jungle, and an unrivalled range of contrasting scenery, wildlife and cultures. First up, a superb trekking adventure that’ll rival any in South America – the world-famous Inca Trail. Travel the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where you will visit the Pisac ruins and drop into a women’s weaving project. Marvel at the genius of the Incas and gasp at the breath-taking views of the Andes peaks and Machu Picchu. After time to catch your breath in Cuzco, move on to the Amazon where you can scan the rainforest canopy for wildlife from the comfort of an eco-friendly lodge, accompanied by expert naturalist guides.
Arrive in Lima at any time. There are no planned activities so check into the hotel and enjoy the city. There is a welcome meeting in the evening.
Please note: if you booked the Culinary Bundle it does not include extra time in Lima and we highly recommend booking pre-trip accommodation. You will be picked up from the hotel at approx 10:00 and taken to a local market and restaurant to prepare and enjoy a traditional Peruvian meal. You will return back to the hotel around 13:00.
Also note that hot water shortages and power outages can be fairly common in Peru (even in upgraded hotels and private homes). We appreciate your patience and understanding that these occurrences are outside of our control.
Arrival Day and Welcome Meeting with G Representative
Take a transfer to the airport for the flight to Cusco. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and exploring this fascinating city, and getting used to the altitude.
Plane (1.00-1.50 hours)
Travel through the stunning Sacred Valley of the Incas, visiting a G Adventures-supported women's weaving co-op. Meet the women and learn about traditional weaving and dyeing. Opt to pick up some handmade souvenirs and textiles directly from the women who made them.
Take a guided tour of the impressive Pisac ruins, the colourful artisan market (on market days only), and the small indigenous village of Huchuy Qosco. Have lunch at the G Adventures-supported Parwa community restaurant. Learn about the G Adventures for Good project and eat a delicious buffet-style lunch. Proceeds of this meal go directly back to the remote community.
Continue on to the town of Ollantaytambo. Take a guided tour of the large ruin site adjacent to the town. Ollantaytambo is the first taste of what lies ahead in Machu Picchu.

Ollantaytambo Ruins Guided Tour
Make stops along the way as you pass through this gorgeous valley – the elevation descends the whole way.
Private Vehicle (95km)
Trek through beautiful scenery, with a variety of flora that changes with the seasons, passing several smaller ruin sites like Llactapata.
A crew of local porters, cooks, and guides will take care of all the details for the duration of the hike. Porters carry the majority of the gear so you'll only need to carry a small daypack with water, rain gear, snacks, a camera, etc.
Inca Trail Hike
Private Vehicle (0.75 hour(s))
Start early to climb the long steep path to Warmiwañusca, better known as Dead Woman's Pass. This is the highest point of the trek at 4,198m (13,769 ft). Most hikers reach camp by early afternoon, with ample time to rest and relax.
Inca Trail Hike
Cross two more passes and ruins along the way. The first pass is Runquraqay at 3,950m (13,113 ft) where, on a clear day, hikers can catch a glimpse of the snow-capped Cordillera Vilcabamba. Hike through cloud forest on the gentle climb to the second pass of the day, walking through original Incan constructions. The highest point of the pass is 3,700m (12,136 ft). On a clear day, enjoy the spectacular views of the Urubamba Valley.
At 3,650m (11,972 ft), reach the ruins of Phuyupatamarca, the "town above the clouds." Camp here or go another 1.5 hrs to the Wiñay Wayna ruins ("forever young") located at 2,650m (8,694 ft).
Inca Trail Hike
The final day of the hike starts pre-dawn to reach the Sun Gate before sunrise. Catch the first views of the breathtaking ruins of Machu Picchu on a clear day. Hike down to Machu Picchu for a guided tour of the site and free time to explore. Opt to visit the Inca Bridge, if time allows.
Catch the bus to Aguas Calientes to meet any non-hiking members of your group. Eat and relax before your train back to Cusco in the afternoon.

Machu Picchu Guided Tour
Train (1.50 hour(s), 118km)
Private Vehicle (2.00 hour(s))
Continue to explore Cusco on a free day in the city.
Fly to Puerto Maldonado, deep in the lowlands of the Amazon Jungle.
After a brief stop in town to store large luggage, drive to the pier and travel by covered motorized boat to the jungle lodge. En route, spot bird species typical of the river and forest edge. The Tambopata Rainforest area holds the world record for the most bird sightings in one area.
Local community members make up the majority of lodge staff, including multilingual naturalist guides. Take the opportunity to learn about the area's rich flora and fauna and locals' extensive use of medicinal plants and other forest plant resources through traditional techniques for building, fishing, and hunting.
The lodge itself combines native architectural style and materials with low-impact, eco-friendly technology. Rooms are simple but comfortable, with mosquito netting for individual beds, flush toilets, showers (with solar-heated hot water), and candles for lighting (no electricity).
Wildlife-spotting Night Walk
On arrival, head by private vehicle to the lodge's office in Puerto Maldonado to store large luggage. Use one of the provided duffels to bring just what you need into the jungle. From there, travel about 1 hr to reach the boat landing.
Plane (1.00 hour(s), 320km)
Motorized canoe (2.50-3.00 hours)
Head out early to catch the jungle at its wildest (and coolest). Walk slowly through the forest searching for wildlife before heading out on an oxbow lake by canoe. Search for anaconda, the elusive giant river otter, or black caiman. Even if you don't spot these shy creatures, there are plenty of other birds, interesting plants, and other animals about.
Enjoy a delicious Amazonian breakfast before heading back to the airport by motorized boat and van. Fly to Lima and opt for a final night out for dinner or Pisco Sours.
Motorized canoe (3.00 hour(s))
Take a van from the pier to pick up stored luggage before heading to the Puerto Maldonado airport. Make a brief stop in Cusco en route to Lima. A private vehicle will be waiting to take the group to the Lima hotel.

Hi G Adventures Folks, We just got back after a wonderful and breath taking trip to the Andes and the Amazon(Peru) G Adventures you did an outstanding job, the tour was well organised and went like clock work. The guide we had for the Inca Trail, Richard Perez, outdid himself. Not only was he very courteous, but well informed, had a sense of humour and was very caring towards all of us. He spoke fluent English too. There were 11 of us on the tour and every one of us fell in love with his personality. He was so kind. The food on the trail was just fantastic, the cook and the porters did a great job as well. Being a vegeterian I did not have any issues. The amazon trip was intersting as well, and the guide pretty good. The lodge was very lovely. With so little the people were so generous, my husband Peter not only got wished on his birthday but even got to have a chocolate cake!! Outstanding work G Adventures... we will join you again...and will pass on your company name to friends and family!! Thank you!Overall Rating
I just wanted to say thanks for an amazing trip. I recently completed the Inka Trail and spent some time in the jungles of Peru celebrating my 30th birthday. It was the most amazing vacation I've ever been on. The tour was amazingly organized, and the food on the trail far exceeded all of my expectations. Thank you for making my 30th memorable. I can't wait until I can book another G Adventure.Overall Rating
I was reviewing my pictures from our trip to Machu Picchu and reminding me of what a great trip it was. Percy our guide was great. His knowledge and dedication was tremendous. Everyone in our group of 10 was looked after wonderfully not only by Percy but by our porters and staff that was with us. I would not think there is a better company to travel with. I would have no problem in recommending G Adventures as the THE company to travel with. This information was passed onto our Travel Agent when she called to follow up on our trip. Your whole crew made the trip easy and a lot of fun. Thank you to all your staff for a great trip. You can be very proud as a Canadian company for the work you are going with the people we met on the trip and how you are trying to improve their lives.Overall Rating
Great experience of Peru in a short time. A beautiful country and the experience was one of teh best of my life, made all the better by G Adventures.Overall Rating
I was quite happy with the trip. Hiking was good. Well taken care of and the Amazon was good as well. Always good food.Overall Rating
I loved how safe we felt the entire way through. Our guide made sure we got through the road blocks and turmoil that happened during the strikes while we were there. I heard some people on different tour groups couldn't make the trail because of the strikes, but our guide found a way! I also have to praise the chefs that were with us on the Inca Trail. The made sure my many allergies were taken care of and made me special dishes so I wouldn't have to resort to something less enjoyable. The entire trip Amazon as well as the Inca tour was more then I would have expected.Overall Rating
I had a great time on the tour. Everything was organized and handled professionally. Also the food on the Inca Trail was phenomenal. It´s unbelievable that the chef is able to create such great dishes with so little supplies! I don´t eat that well even when I´m at home!Overall Rating
I thought the trip and entire tour was fabulous. I enjoyed all aspects of it, and thought things were well-thought out and organized.Overall Rating
