This 9-day tour takes you off the beaten tourist path and into the cultures of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Begin in Almaty and drive through the stunning Charyn Canyon. Spend one night in a traditional yurt and get to know the welcoming families of the nomadic Kyrgyz culture. Enjoy city time in Bishkek as well as optional activities like day hikes and horseback riding to get you closer to the stunning nature here.

Day 1: Bishkek

Arrive at any time.


Day 2: Bishkek/Chong-Kemin

Enjoy a morning city tour of Bishkek before departing for Chong-Kemin. Stop at the Burana Tower before arriving at the community homestay. Explore the village and then eat a home cooked traditional dinner.
After breakfast, embark on a morning city tour of Bishkek. Later, depart Bishkek for Chong-Kemin. Along the way, stop at one of Kyrgyzstan's oldest sights, the Burana Tower and learn about this ancient structure, rare in nomadic culture. Continue along the scenic valley before reaching Chong-Kemin. Stay in a unique guest house that employs the local villagers. Soak in the stunning scenery while exploring the village.


Day 3: Chong-Kemin/Song Kul

Continue on to Song Kul and spend the night in a traditional yurt. Opt to spend the day hiking or go for a horseback ride.
In the morning, take a scenic drive to Song Kul and be immersed in Kyrgyz culture with an overnight stay in a traditional yurt. Experience daily nomadic life, opting to go hike the landscape or embark on a horseback ride. Enjoy delicious traditional cuisine for lunch and dinner. In the evening, get cozy in the yurt around the stove.


Day 4: Song Kul

Spend a full day soaking in this beautiful area. Opt to head out for some hiking or horseback riding. Enjoy another night in a yurt.


Day 5: Song Kul/Barskoon

After breakfast, depart for Barskoon village. On the way, stop at Beltam Camp for lunch and opt to go for a swim in Lake Issykul. Arrive in Barskoon in the late afternoon and spend the night in a homestay.
Following breakfast, drive to Beltam Camp and stop for lunch. Opt to go for a swim in the world's second-largest alpine lake, Issykul Lake. Enjoy scenic backdrops of the mountains and lake before continuing on to Barskoon. Enjoy dinner followed by a homestay with the community.


Day 6: Barskoon/Karakol

In the morning, visit Ak-Orgo Workshop centre and see how traditional yurts are built. Visit a felt-making workshop and learn about this typical Kyrgyz craft.

Continue on to Karakol and visit the Prejevalskiy Museum. Enjoy a walking tour of Karakol and see the Russian Orthodox Church of the 19th Century and Pagoda Style Dungan Mosque. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore Karakol.


Day 7: Karakol/Almaty

Drive to the border and cross into Kazakhstan. Continue driving to Almaty via scenic Charyn Canyon to take in the Kazakh landscape.


Day 8: Almaty

Take a city tour of Almaty including the historical centre, the Zenkov Cathedral and the Monument of Independence. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore. Opt to climb green hill for a panoramic view or visit the local market.


Day 9: Almaty

Depart at any time.
