Day 1: Kota Kinabalu

Arrive at any time.

Day 2: Kota Kinabalu/Mount Kinabalu (1B, 1D)

Travel to the base of Mt Kinabalu, the highest mountain between the Himalayas and Papua New Guinea.

In the afternoon, stretch your legs by exploring the trails around the park or check out the visitor centre.

Day 3: Mount Kinabalu (1B, 1L, 1D)

Set off early to begin the ascent up Mt Kinabalu. It is not an easy walk, but it is incredibly rewarding. Willpower is the main requirement as it's uphill all the way!

Spend the night at Laban Rata in basic mountain huts 3,272m (10,735 ft) above sea level.

Turn in early to prepare for the final climb very early in the morning.

Day 4: Mount Kinabalu/Kota Kinabalu (1B, 1L)

Summit Mt Kinabalu (3-5hrs) and arrive in time for sunrise. Return to Laban Rata for a rest and to the park headquarters for lunch. Transfer back to Kota Kinabalu.

Day 5: Kota Kinabalu/Gunung Mulu National Park (1B)

Fly to Mulu and transfer to the lodge. Head into the park for a walk through the forest and explore Deer Cave. In the evening go on a walk in search of bats hunting for insects.

Day 6: Gunung Mulu National Park (1B, 1L, 1D)

Depart the lodge, board a longboat and travel along the Melinau River to the Wind and Clearwater caves. Explore the caves, take a dip in the crystal clear waters, and enjoy a picnic lunch in the rainforest. Continue by longboat to Kuala Litut and start the trek to Camp 5, our stop for the night.

At Kuala Litut, disembark the longboat and begin the trek to Camp 5, where the group will spend the night. The trail here is well maintained.

Day 7: Gunung Mulu National Park/Limbang (1B, 1L, 1D)

Continue on the Headhunter Trail trekking past streams and caves, all while hearing the sounds of the thousands of species that call this jungle home. Learn about the rich history of the warring parties that created this trail before boarding a boat down the river to Limbang, where you will spend the night.

Continue trekking along the well maintained Headhunter Trail to Kuala Terikan. Upon arrival board a boat and transfer to Limbang.

Day 8: Limbang/Pulau Tiga (1B, 1D)

Start off early for a busy day of travel – by ferry, boat, and private vehicle – to the tropical island of Pulau Tiga. After arriving on the island head out on a trek to a mud volcano and learn more about the region.

Day 9: Pulau Tiga (1B, 1L, 1D)

Enjoy a free day on this tropical paradise. Opt to go snorkelling, kayaking, or visit Snake Island.

Day 10: Pulau Tiga/Kota Kinabalu (1B)

In Kota Kinabalu, opt to check out the restaurants along the waterfront with some free time in the evening.

Day 11: Kota Kinabalu/Kota Belud (1B, 1L, 1D)

Spend the day learning about the traditional life style by taking part in activities such as rubber tapping, fruit harvesting, and rice planting at your local style accommodations.

Day 12: Kota Belud/Sungai Kinabatangan (1B, 1L, 1D)

Travel towards Sandakan and continue to the jungle lodge on the Kinabatangan River, Sabah's longest. After settling in head out for a river safari. After dinner, opt for a guided night walk through the jungle.

Day 13: Sungai Kinabatangan (1B, 1L, 1D)

Begin the day with a river safari in search of wildlife. After breakfast, visit the nearby oxbow lake with a professional guide and seek out proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants, macaques, and gibbons. Later, visit a nearby cave and, with some luck, spot a wild orangutan. Enjoy another boat cruise along the river to spot more wildlife before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 14: Sungai Kinabatangan/Sepilok (1B)

Depart in the morning and travel to Sepilok. Enjoy a visit to the orangutan rehabilitation centre and the adjacent sun bear conservation centre.

Day 15: Sepilok/Pulau Libaran (1B, 1L, 1D)

Transfer to Sandakan and continue to Libaran Island by boat. Take a guided tour of the island's turtle hatchery and learn about the turtle conservation program. Opt to go snorkelling or kayaking with some free time.
