Heard on the grapevine that UK festivals are the best in the world? Time to see if the rumours are true…welcome to Reading. One of the biggest, oldest and best festivals on the UK circuit, this trip will see you VIP-ing it up whilst listening to some of the world’s biggest headliners over 4 days, with a little Oxford – Bath – Bristol aperitif happening before hand to give you a little peek of Britain’s finest.
Check-in to your hotel after 2pm and the remainder of the day is free to relax before meeting your fellow travellers for your Kickstart meeting this evening. Afterwards why not grab some dinner at one of the local restaurants or take a short walk to explore nearby Covent Garden
Meeting up in the busy and beautiful capital city we'll hop straight on the coach and onto our first destination of Windsor. Any guesses for what our soundtrack will be? Of course a collection of the Reading Festival headliners, to get us all in the musical mood. Ready for a very royal affair? The pretty town of Windsor is a favourite with her majesty, who often uses Windsor Castle as her weekend home. The oldest inhabited castle in the world, we'll pay a visit to nose around the royal residence and fuel up on morning tea. If you wern't feeling British before, you will now. Stepping into the elegance of 13th century colleges, we’ll soak up the buzz of youth and aroma of academia. After an orientation tour of the city, spend the afternoon exploring museums, marvelling at the beauty of the Bodleian Library, or simply sitting amidst 8,000 plant and flower species at the University’s famed Botanical Gardens.
Time to part with our textbooks and take to the highway, there’s a city sitting atop natural hot springs that’s begging us to visit. Plunging into the culturally rich town of Bath, we’ll be instantly impressed by the Roman architecture and the remnants of what was once a British haunt of high fashion. Beyond the Roman Baths themselves you can stroll across the Pulteney Bridge, roam the Royal Crescent or visit the Victoria Art Gallery. Onto another student hotspot next, this time Bristol. The similarities between Bath and Bristol are heard to miss, although the city is altogether grander and also boasts one very impressive suspension bridge. We'll be taking you down the back alleys of Bristol, although it's not as dodgy as it sounds - we'll be on the hunt for street art by the legendary mystery artist, Bansky.
Today's the day - Reading Festival we're coming for you, but not before a couple of historical stop offs on route. First up is the medieval cathedral city of Salisbury, most famous for (no surprises here) its ornate 13th-century cathedral. Boasting a 123m spire, a working 14th-century clock and an original copy of the Magna Carta (the Great Charter), this is pretty much some of the UK's most prominent history in a nutshell. On a history roll and want even more? How about paying a visit to Stonehenge, one of the wonders of the world and the best-known prehistoric monument in Europe? #historymoments right here... History lessons complete it's time for the main event - festival fun! Arriving at Reading like straight up VIPs in our luxe coach, we'll continue the theme as we settle in to our luxury campsite complete with pre-erected tents, air beds and sleeping bags, private hot showers, phone charging stations, posh toilets AND a pamper zone complete with hair dryers. Now THIS is how you do a UK festival...
3 days of musical madness ahead of you = the most exciting prospect ever. Take advantage of your included hot brekkie this morning, then it's wellies on and into the festival we go. With 9 different stages to choose from including the Alternative Stage, the NME Stage and The Pit, and hundreds of artists to pick from, the adventures are endless. See you at the main stage for Friday night's headliner
Festival Day 2 - let's do this. Keeping our fingers and toes crossed for sunshine it's more of the same today. Don't forget, UK festivals aren't just about the music, they're also about the food. Tasty pulled pork, spicy curries, cheesy grilled sandwiches - pretty much whatever you can dream of to keep you powered through the day (and into the night).
Today's the closing day, so let's make it the best yet. Go to that stage you haven't visited yet, get a list of all the acts you just can't miss, and of course squeeze in some time for some personal hygiene, courtesy of the campsites hot showers and parlour room. We'll see you at the main stage come sunset for the final headline act, and we know it's going to be epic...
Well that's it - Reading is done and dusted for another year. Contiki Sounds adventure will come to an end but hey, at least we don't have to deal with taking down tents like the majority of the festival goers!"
