Day 1: Buenos Aires

Arrive in Buenos Aires at any time. Check into the hotel and enjoy the city as there are no planned activities.

After exploring, rest weary feet and enjoy a drink in one of the many sidewalk cafes and restaurants. Begin to understand the contemplative Argentine way of life. Buenos Aires will be the last chance to try the succulent bife and parrilladas, so dig in and enjoy!

Day 2: Buenos Aires/San Carlos de Bariloche (1B)

Take a short flight to San Carlos de Bariloche, the entrance to northern Patagonia. Jump on a cable car in Cerro Otto for stunning views or simply relax in a cafe.

Sample a beefy parillada or a variety of fresh salmon or lake trout.

Day 3: San Carlos de Bariloche (1B)

Choose how you want to spend your free day to explore the countryside. Optional activities include hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.


Day 4: San Carlos de Bariloche/Puerto Varas (1B)

Journey aboard a comfortable bus across the Andes and through the marvelous mountain scenery of the Lake District. Spend 2 nights on the shores of Lake Llanquihue, enjoying the perfect views of Osorno Volcano.

Day 5: Puerto Varas (1B)

Enjoy a free day in Puerto Varas. Optional activities include rafting, hiking, or exploring Chiloe Island.


Day 6: Puerto Varas/Punta Arenas (1B)

At the very end of the Chilean mainland, looking across the Straits of Magellan to Porvenir and Tierra del Fuego, Punta Arenas is a city of about 100,000 people.

One of the most interesting optional activities is only a short drive away from Punta Arenas. The Otway Sound penguin colony is the result of a successful protection program that has brought back the penguins' once endangered population to healthy numbers. These charming birds are here from October to April, with chicks hatching in early December. En route there and back to town look out for rheas, flamingos, and a variety of other birds. Foxes and skunks occasionally make an appearance as well.

Day 7: Punta Arenas/Puerto Natales (1B)

Puerto Natales is the entrance way to Torres del Paine National Park.

During the day, explore the town, eat a hearty meal for energy, and rest well for the 4-day hike ahead. Get any last-minute shopping done in Puerto Natales, and rent all equipment needed for the hike. Any extra gear not needed for the Paine hike will be stored.

Day 8: Puerto Natales/Torres del Paine National Park (1B, 1L, 1D)

Embark on a 4-day excursion within Torres del Paine National Park, hiking the famous 'W' circuit. See the Horns of Paine, the Towers, the French Valley, and Grey Glacier.

Day 9: Torres del Paine National Park (1B, 1L, 1D)

Continue the hike of the W Circuit. The day's end point is Cuernos Refuge.

Start on Day 3 of the W Circuit, and hike to Paine Grande.

Finish up the W Circuit. Hike to Grey Viewpoint then return to Puerto Natales.

Day 12: Puerto Natales/El Calafate (1B)

Leave Chile and return to Argentina, travelling across the dusty, windy altiplano. The long road takes us through the arid southern pampas and across the border to the turquoise waters of Argentino Lake and the town of El Calafate. A spectacular drive west towards the mountains leads us to the dynamic Moreno glacier. Look for condors, rheas, eagles or flamingos en route, but the real star of the day is the stunning Moreno Glacier, at the southern terminus of Glacier National Park.

Day 13: El Calafate/El Chaltén (1B)

Visit Perito Moreno Glacer in the morning before continuing on to the town of El Chaltén located in the north end of the park.

Day 14: El Chaltén

Full-day guided hike in Glacier National Park to Laguna de los Tres.

Day 15: El Chaltén/El Calafate

Free morning to enjoy optional activities like hiking Viedma glacier or Laguna Torre, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Drive back to El Calafate in the afternoon.

Day 16: El Calafate/Ushuaia (1B)

Take a short flight to the southern-most city in the world: Ushuaia, which is situated on the island of Tierra del Fuego.

Enjoy an optional cruise along the Beagle Channel (named after Darwin's expedition vessel) providing panoramic views of the scenery and the chance to spot marine animals and a variety of marine birds. Back on land there are various options, including bird watching, canning in Ushuaia rivers and lakes, 4x4 rides, day hikes in Tierra del Fuego National Park, horseback riding, and a visit to a penguin colony in Harberton Ranch.
