Affirming the ‘great’ in Great Britain, we’ll hop around this region and its unbeatable line-up of towns and cities. With a kick off in London and a final stop in Liverpool, it’s almost hard to believe what we’ll see in between. Whether you’re a history buff or a muso or a big fan of sports, this trip has a little something for everyone.
Today we unite in the capital of a Kingdom that’s brimming with excitement and adventure. Kicking off with a 4pm catch up, we’ll hear the nitty gritty on the days ahead and tuck in to a traditional British dinner. We’ll then be free to kick on & explore London’s moonlight hours, or we can conserve our energy for tomorrow’s explorations.
Whether you find yourself sifting through antique treasures in Notting Hill or sipping coffee after a bout of shopping in Shoreditch, today will be a pleasure. To make it a legit Brit experience you can get up close and personal with the iconic ‘Big Benny’ and snuggle up at a traditional pub when hunger strikes.
With London town now ticked, devoured and conquered, we’ll kick on in the direction of a prestigious university town. Stepping into the elegance of 13th century colleges, we’ll soak up the buzz of youth and aroma of academia. Spend the afternoon exploring museums, marvelling at the beauty of Bodleian Library, or sitting amidst 8,000 plant and flower species at the University of Oxford’s Botanical Gardens.
Time to part with our textbooks and take to the highway, there’s a city sitting atop natural hot springs that’s begging us to visit. We’ll make a stop in the culturally rich town of Bath, we’ll fall in love with Roman architecture and the remnants of what was once a British haunt of high fashion. Beyond the Roman Baths themselves you can stroll across the Pulteney Bridge, roam the Royal Crescent or visit the Victoria Art Gallery. We then kick on to the uber cool city of Bristol, home to the legendary artist Banksy. Rich in maritime history & contemporary art, Bristol is the cultural hub of the South West. Shop in the local boutiques, eat in community-run cafes & explore local music venues dotted around the city.
Feeling quite well versed in all things England, we’ll stretch our wings and make our way to Wales, driving just a few sweet hours and crossing the planes of Brecon Beacons National Park. Arriving in the state capital of Cardiff, we’ll find a buzzing and compact metropolis. Waste no time diving into the food of the region, enjoying Welsh rarebit – a glam and irresistible cheese on toast - or Welsh crempog - their very own take on the pancake.
Today you can curl up in Cardiff as you see fit. See it’s regal side at Dyffryn Gardens or Caerphilly Castle, or get amongst the modern day scene at the cultural art space of ‘Chapter’. If craft beer and live music sounds like your evening ideal, you can hit up the lively street of Womanby.
Though one can never have too much time in Cardiff, we’ll be moving on and venturing back to the skirts of England, as we have a few more vibrant cities waiting to steal our hearts. Today we say ‘Hwyl fawr’ to Wales and back to beautiful England making our way to the home of one of its most important sons- William Shakespeare’s and his beloved Stratford upon Avon. Time to explore here before we head north where we bed down in the charming town of Warwick.
Start scrubbing up on your Mancunian slang as we make our way out of Stratford to the ‘mint’ city of Manchester, where football is just the tip of the iceberg. Manchester has a lot to be proud of, holding ownership of Oasis, Coronation Street, vegetarianism, and the oldest English language library in the world. We’ll spend a night in this hub of quirks, where we can go out and explore the sites by day before exploring the basement clubs of the vibrant Northern Quarter.
By now you should be completely enamoured by the unique ways of this city, and understanding of the saying ‘only in Manchester’. It’s time to move on for one last Brit map-point – we’ve saved a well sound city for our last night on tour. Home of Beatlemania and another of Britain’s most beloved football teams, Liverpool is a city worth ticking. Throw on your best Scouse accent and sign up for a tour of the most mysterious kind, or go find the heart of the city in the energetic and transformed factory area of the Baltic Triangle.
Some of you may want to finish up the good times here in Liverpool- others perhaps prefer to return to London.....This morning we pack our bags and leave lively Liverpool, weaving south east in the direction of London. Take in the English countryside en route, with charming cottages and farmlands entertaining our windows. Back in London we’ll share sombre goodbyes as our trip comes to an end. At least we’ll be leaving each other with a newfound appreciation for all things Britain and 10-days of incredible memories.
