Departs Glasgow at 10am. After a pick up from a Glasgow hostel, we transfer from the hustle and bustle of Scotland’s biggest city to our starting point at Milngavie, the official starting point for the West Highland Way. After a kit check, we bike north past lochs and through forests and areas such as the ‘Khyber Pass’ as it is known locally, then onwards up Conic Hill from where you can see the line of islands following the Highland boundary fault across Loch Lomond.
We take to the water and kayak the world famous Loch Lomond. You have the opportunity to get a truly unique view point of the dramatic Ben Lomond on arguably Scotland's most beautiful loch. Once the camp fire is lit and the dinner is cooked, it’s time to huddle round and gaze up at the stars.
Travelling by foot and on bike, we follow the River Falloch through stunning gorges, rocky rapids and wide dark peaty pools. We also pass two railway viaducts constructed in the 1890’s to carry the West Highline Line north towards Fort William.
We bike/hike through one of the most remote areas of Europe along the military road built in the 1700’s by General Wade. Tonight we have another night under canvas in Scotland’s stunning wilderness.
We tackle the ‘Devils Staircase’, named by Wade’s soldiers who built the route and into the stunningly beautiful Glencoe, scene of the infamous massacre of 1692. What better way to truly experience how the Highland clans lived than to literally follow in their footsteps. In the afternoon we take to the water and sea kayak along the gorgeous Loch Leven; a saltwater loch that leads into the Atlantic.
A truly amazing day travelling from the calm inlet of Loch Leven into the open water of Loch Linnhe. End your trip surrounded by open water and beautiful mountains. Arrives into Fort William late afternoon.
